RSV in Children: When to Seek Care
Common RSV symptoms in kids, urgent care vs ER, and what NeuMed pediatric urgent care can evaluate.
RSV is very common in young children. Most cases are mild and cold-like, but RSV can cause wheezing and breathing difficulty in infants and toddlers.
Common symptoms: Runny nose, cough, fever, decreased appetite, and fussiness. Symptoms usually peak around day 3–5 before improving.
When urgent care may help: Persistent fever, worsening cough, concern about hydration, or you need evaluation to rule out complications — NeuMed pediatric urgent care treats children 6 months and older.
Go to the ER for: Fast or labored breathing, retractions, bluish skin, severe lethargy, or inability to drink enough fluids.
Infants under 3 months with fever or breathing concerns need emergency care.
Supportive care at home: Nasal suction, fluids, and fever management as directed. There is no routine antibiotic for RSV — it is viral.
NeuMed pediatric team: Gentle, kid-friendly evaluation with on-site testing when appropriate. Walk in or save your spot online.
