Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before ordering a Functional Health Lab panel in Houston.

How is this different from the blood work my doctor orders?

Insurance-driven panels focus on catching disease that has already arrived. Functional Health Lab panels look at a wider set of markers and compare results to optimal ranges — not just "normal" population averages — so you can spot trends earlier and act sooner.

Do I need insurance? Does insurance cover it?

No insurance is required. These panels are self-pay, transparently priced, and designed for direct purchase. Coverage varies by plan; most patients pay out of pocket and use HSA/FSA when eligible.

Can I use my HSA or FSA card?

Yes — Functional Health Lab panels are structured as eligible medical expenses for most HSA/FSA accounts. Confirm with your plan administrator if you have questions about your specific account.

Do I have to fast? For how long?

Most panels require a 12-hour fast (water is fine). Prep instructions for your specific panel are included with your LabCorp order.

Where do I get my blood drawn? Do I need an appointment?

After you order, we email a printable LabCorp lab order. Take it to any LabCorp patient service center for your draw. Walk-ins are welcome at most locations — no separate lab appointment required.

How long do results take?

Results typically arrive in 5–10 business days, depending on the panel. You will receive your report by email, with standard and optimal ranges plus a clinician review once results are ready.

Do I get to talk to an actual doctor about my results?

Yes. Every panel includes a review with a NeuMed clinician who explains what your numbers mean and what to do next — by phone, video, or in person at any of our Houston clinics.

Which panel should I choose?

Start with Core Wellness if you want a baseline. Choose a goal-based panel (cardio, men's, or women's) if you have a specific concern. Ultimate Wellness is our most popular comprehensive option. Not sure? Try the 60-second panel finder.

Can I share my results with my own doctor?

Absolutely. Your NeuMed Health Baseline Report includes a downloadable PDF you can share with any provider.

What if something comes back abnormal?

Your NeuMed clinician will explain findings and recommend next steps. Because we are a full clinic — not a mail-order lab — treatment options like hormone therapy, IV therapy, and medical weight loss are available under the same roof.

Is my health data private?

Yes. Your results are protected under HIPAA. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, never sold to insurers or advertisers, and accessible only to you and your care team.

How often should I retest?

Many patients retest annually for baseline tracking, or every 3–6 months when actively addressing a specific finding with their clinician.

Can I add specific tests to a panel?

Yes — ask at checkout or during your results review about add-on testing options.

Do you test children / is there an age minimum?

Panels are designed for adults, but minors may test with guardian consent. Contact a clinic if you have questions about testing for a child.
