What Happens at a Medical Weight Loss Consultation?

What to expect at your first visit — history, exam, labs, and treatment planning.

Your first medical weight loss visit at NeuMed focuses on understanding your health and goals — not starting medication immediately without evaluation.

Health history: Expect questions about weight history, medical conditions (diabetes, thyroid disease, PCOS, etc.), current medications, allergies, and prior weight-loss attempts.

Physical assessment: A provider may check vital signs and perform an exam relevant to your candidacy for GLP-1 therapy or other interventions.

Lab testing: Blood work may be recommended based on guidelines and your health profile — for example metabolic panels, A1C, or thyroid function when clinically indicated.

Treatment discussion: If you are a candidate for GLP-1 medication, your provider explains options (semaglutide, tirzepatide), expected side effects, dosing schedule, and follow-up plan. If medication is not appropriate, alternative strategies are discussed.

Questions to bring: Current medications, insurance information, weight and health goals, and any concerns about side effects or cost.

Book a consultation: Save your spot online or request a consultation at a NeuMed Houston location.
